Homemade Lemonade

My husband and I drank a lot of Kool-Aid during the first two years of our marriage. Because he preferred lemonade, we drank mostly that flavor. But other than the occasional punch, we rarely drink it now. Instead, we make our own.

This recipe is adapted from the Southern Country Cooking from The Loveless Cafe cookbook. If you don't have it, you should buy it. It's my favorite cookbook.

1-1/2 c. sugar
1/2 c. fresh-squeezed lemon juice
1/4 tsp. salt
8 c. water
1 lemon, thinly sliced

Put the sugar, lemon juice, salt, and water into a pitcher. Stir well until the sugar is dissolved. Add the lemon slices.

This lemonade is both lemony AND sweet. You may want to increase or decrease the sugar and/or add an extra lemon.

Oh, and take note that this cookbook does NOT include the recipe for Loveless Cafe biscuits. Did you really think that the cookbook would give away that recipe? Yeah, and the Colonel's selling the recipe for KFC, too. Obviously not! :)

Did I mention that want the new Loveless Cafe desserts cookbook, too?

One goal of mine in starting this blog was to make some new friends with whom to share thoughts, ideas, encouragement, and inspiration. Please post a message. I would love to hear from you! But please be friendly; please don't say anything in the comments that you would not say to me in my own home.
